Employment enhancing skill development facilitated

Objective: Employment enhancing skill development to be facilitated

Outcome: Employment enhancing skill development is facilitated

Measure: Employment enhancing skill development facilitated

Short description

Development of skills, experience and knowledge necessary to obtain employment or to carry out tasks and responsibilities effectively and efficiently within current employment.

Full description

This outcome is about the development of skills or knowledge that enhance the capacity of an individual to obtain meaningful employment in the future, either intentionally or unintentionally. This could include specific artistic skills, such as a new art form or repertoire, but also more generalised skills such as creative thinking, capacity for collaboration, persistence, work skills or communication.

Theory underpinning this outcome

The ability to obtain employment is relevant for human fulfilment as a number of factors contributing to quality of life are linked to meaningful employment such as personal development and material well-being (Lysaght & Cobigo, 2014). People with employment skills are able to adjust to changing opportunities more easily and therefore are more able to support overall economic resilience. A skilled workforce are also able to help absorb economic shocks as their skills enable them to shift to sectors with stronger demand (Briguglio et al, 2006)

Evidence that this outcome occurs

A study of young people in a summer performing arts program found that the activity facilitated the development of participant’s leadership skills (LeMire, Achtenberg & Opp. 2017).

The process of creative engagement has been shown to aid the development of strategic thinking skills in young people (Larson & Angus, 2011).
